Ear Tubes

Hopefully this is the last doctors appointment to write about for a while. Sheesh. This morning Alice totally rocked her little surgery for ear tubes. Long story short- we saw the ENT last week about all her ear infections, he could tell she had really dense liquid in her ears so we scheduled the surgery for today, less than a week later. We arrived at Strictly Pediatrics at 6:30am for a 7:30 surgery, and we were in the car on the way home at 8am! Dr. Kriesel is our ENT, and he is fantastic. The nurses were all really nice as well. I did get emotional, because minor surgery or not, no one wants their kid to go through that, but Alice kicked ass and is doing great. Took the anesthesia like a champ (no ivs or throat tubes needed), came home and ate breakfast, played with Max and is now napping. Doctor said she had a lot of fluid in her ears creating pressure, so she'll be happier now without that discomfort and will have really sensitive hearing for a day or so as a result. I'm a bit nervous about her new super hearing ability.... He said he had to use his biggest suction thingy (technical term), because the fluid was so thick. He told us to image Karo syrup but thicker. Eww- even though I was curious to see it (we did not). Recovery is fast and easy. Most babies don't even have to wear ear plugs- it's fine if they just splash and get some water in their ears. But we're getting her some made because I don't think they believed us that she likes to dunk her entire head under water. Often insists on just that. And she'll be in lake water too. Better safe than sorry.
Hopefully Alice will stop getting ear infections now. my poor sweet girl. I'm glad it's over and went well and she seems to be doing great. A huge relief!
